How to make a blog with WordPress- Hello again, thank you for staying with me here. I like to share something by blogging. Well, it gives a good feeling for me anytime I share something I know when I’m writing in my blog. No matter how simple it is because I believe there’s someone out there need the information.
OK now I want to share with you about how to create websites using WordPress, a well known CMS (Content Management System) in the world.
Back to about 5-8 years ago, it’s hard to create a good website by your own. You have to hire a web designer and a webmaster to create a good looking website for you. But now that’s not necessary anymore.
Why?
Because now you can find a tool to create website, even for free.
Yes, this tool is called CMS (Content Management System). A tool that is mostly a template for us to create websites.
WordPress and CMS
In the beginning WordPress is known as a blog platform. Lately WordPress has become such a well known brand of CMS.
By using WordPress we make a blog without the need of programming language skill to build a HTML pages, CSS or any web-making technology.
By using WordPress you can manage text, video, audio, image and other type of media into a good looking website easily.
More about WordPress
There are two kinds of WordPress that people can use as follows.
WordPress.com
This kind of WordPress which you can use freely to make a blog. You can put your blog into a free hosting service provided by WordPress itself. You can use it freely, but with limited of features.
This means that not all features is available. You can get all the features if you upgrade your account.
If you happen to get used to use WordPress before I can assure you that you want to upgrade because of the limited features provided by this type of WordPress.
WordPress.org
This is the community of WordPress user. You can download WordPress here.
What is the difference with WordPress.com?
In WordPress.org You have to pay your own web hosting service and you have to get your own domain name. If you want to make your own domain name you may visit this site.
The features of WordPress that you’ll get when you host your own website and use your own domain is more complete that you’ll get in WordPress.com.
To build your own blog with your own domain first you have to buy a domain name and webhosting service.
You need a web hosting service to put your blog files so they can be accessed by the world using the internet. You have to buy a webhosting service that has CPANEL feature and WordPress supported. You need CPANEL beause it has auto-installer to install WordPress once you have bought domain name.
When you’re done and get 1 domain name and its webhosting service, you can then install WordPress in your site.
Installing WordPress
To install wordpress you can use CPANEL that is provided by webhosting provider. You can find CPANEL in your webhosting service, usually by accessing http://www.domainname.com/cpanel/.
Using CPANEL to Install WordPress
First you have to acecess CPANEL by typing namadomain.com/cpanel in your browser (for example IE, Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome) address bar and press ENTER keypad.
You’ll get this:
You need to insert USERNAME and PASSWORD. When you bought a web hosting service you’ll get an email containing this USERNAME and PASSWORD information.
Once you are in CPANLE area, try to find in the menu software/services or find Softaculous Apps Installer and find WordPress.
Then you need to input data that is requested. Like this example:
Then you have to wait untill the installation process finish. When you’re done you have to click the FINSIH INSTALLATION button and by then you already have WordPress in your blog.
Now you can access your blog by typing your domain name in your browser, and you’ll get like this:
OK, I have to congratulate you for having installed WordPress successfully.
Now you have to access administration page of WordPress to customize and start creating content for your blog.
You can access the administration page by typing this in your browser address page: http://www.domainname.com/wp-admin/
Then you’ll get this:
You need to insert USERNAME and PASSWORD that you set when you install the WordPress.
When you’re in your wordpress administration page you can modify or change the WordPress template, make blog posts and etc.
Now you’re ready to create contents for your blog.
